“Dharm” it’s not Religion. In fact in every
Religion there is Dharma but in Dharma there is no Religion. In Dharma the
whole mankind, God and the Universe persists.
Dharma,
which is a body of laws based on custom as well as tradition, supposedly of
divine origin”.
or it can be said it is the constitution or Magna carta
of all human being prepared by Supreme Lord God. Without it no
religion can flourish.
Though
usually the word ‘Dharm’ is synonymously used with the word ‘Religion’ but they
are totally different.
If we dig deeper we find there is no exact English
translation of the word ‘Dharm’ as there is no such word or alternative
available in the English dictionary so people started using the word ‘religion’
for Dharm.
In
short ‘Religion’ means ‘the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling
power, especially a personal God or gods.
‘Dharm’ means ‘righteousness in word, action and thought.
Definition
of Dharm in Sanskrit
“Dharma Iti Dharait”.
means whatever we
(I, Forefather, society, Race) Regenerate or Embrace or Hold or Assume or Adopt
is Dharma. In it Custom and culture is also involve.
In
Dharma - Dharma is accumulated habits, attitudes, and beliefs of a group
or Big area of people that define for them their general behavior and way of
life.
In another words learned behavior of people, which includes their belief,
systems, languages, their social relationships, their institutions and
organizations, and their material goods-food, clothing, buildings, tools and
machines there whole life style.
Swami
Vivekananda says - "Doing well to other is dharma, injuring others is sin or
adharm.
Strength and manliness are Dharm, weakness and cowardice is sin or
Adharm. Independence is Dharm, dependence is Adharm or sin. Loving others is
Dharm, hating others is sin. Faith in God and in one's own Self is Dharm, doubt
is sin. Knowledge of oneness is Dharm, seeing diversity is sin or Adharm".
