In Kaliyuga Adi Shankar Acharya researched this cave in 1191
AD.
Since then this has been a place of visit, both for sightseeing and
worship."
One
who visits inside the cave has to carry in torches
as matches, candles or any source of fire dependent light will not burn inside
the cave due to very low oxygen level.
While
going down one has to hold the protective iron chains to avoid being slipped.
On
the naturally formed broken stair like structures that are steep.
At some
places the steps are at 70 to 90 degree.
Photography

Mobiles, cameras and other such recording devices are not permitted.
It is
forbidden to take picture inside the cave without taking prior permission letter from ASI Dehradun or Delhi office.
Hence
for photography it is necessary to get a permission letter and carry it along as
to be shown to the officials at the entrance of the cave.
The Stone formations
of Sheshnag can be seen, holding earth, heaven the world beneath.
‘Hawan’ (fire
sacrifice) is performed in a dimly lit, solemn atmosphere, under the spell of
holy chants.
You’ll also be impressed by this visit.
One can see the celestial heights of His
abode Kailash.
The cave, it is believed, is connected by an underground route
to Mount Kailash
It’s believed that
Pandavas, the ‘Mahabharata’ heroes proceeded towards their last journey in the
Himalayas after meditating here, in front of Lord Shiva.
